Many people in New York have come to rely on their cars and vehicles. People drive them every day to get to work, go to the grocery store, go to restaurants, go to see friends and family, for entertainment purposes and other reasons. This means that there are many vehicles on the roads every day and in order to keep everyone safe, every driver needs to pay attention to driving and drive safely.

However, people do not always do that and many drivers allow themselves to be distracted. There are many things that can distract drivers while they are on the road, but one of the more dangerous and common distractions are people’s phones. When people use their phones to text, look at directions, go to a website or any other reason it forces them to take their eyes off the road and change their focus from driving to their phones. As a result, distracted driving leads to many motor vehicle accidents each year.

Distracted sriving statistics

From 2016 – 2018 there were over 900,000 crashes in the U.S. each year caused by distracted driving with the totals rising each year. There were also 276,000 crashes that injured the people involved, which is relatively average for the last few years.

Car accidents in New York caused by distracted driving can have very detrimental effects on the victims’ lives. The victims of car accidents may be entitled to compensation from the driver who caused the accident though.
