On Behalf of | Oct 24, 2022 | Business Formation, Business Law |

Applying for your EIN in New York is an easy process when you apply via the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website. The IRS offers several ways to submit your application. You can apply online, by mail or via fax. According to the official IRS website, applying for an online EIN is the preferred choice because your application receives immediate validation. Furthermore, the IRS will issue your EIN immediately.

Applying online is convenient

You do not need to wait for your EIN number when you submit an online application for your business. You can apply online if your business is located in the United States and you possess an official Social Security Number (SSN) or an alternative Taxpayer Identification Number. You can reach the formation stage of your business faster by applying online.

Send a fax

Faxing your form offers another way to apply for an EIN number to ensure correct business formation. Fax your completed Form SS-4 to the fax number listed on the IRS website. Include a fax number if you want to receive your EIN within four business days. Business days do not include Saturday or Sunday.

Mail your Form SS-4

Expect to wait approximately four weeks to receive your EIN if you apply by mail. Answer all questions and include your Taxpayer Identification Number. Make a photocopy of the completed form before you mail it to the IRS in case it is lost in the mail. Mailing the SS-4 form is not recommended if you want to obtain an EIN number in a hurry.

Enjoy the adventure of starting a business

Your EIN is the ticket to starting your business on the right foot. Regardless of the method you use, obtaining an EIN is easy, fast and convenient.
